Things to do on Straddie

Straddie (Minjerribah) is on Brisbane’s doorstep but a million miles from anywhere.  Walk our beautiful beaches, swim in our stunning ocean or mysterious lakes and buy seafood from the locals.  Visit our award winning Museum and immerse yourself in Minjerribah’s indigenous culture.

We have holiday properties where kangaroos and koalas visit regularly and where the abundant birdlife will wake you instead of the traffic.

We hope you take away many memories and leave behind just your footprints.

Below are just some of the things you might like to do while visiting Minjerribah.  Remember to put relaxing on the top of your list.

  • Surfing and Swimming or Learn to Surf.
  • Beach Fishing and Four Wheel Driving - You must obtain a 4WD permit to drive on our beaches.  These can be obtained from Minjerribah Camping on the island or online
  • Visit the award winning North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum
  • Attend the Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival in late July
  • Snorkelling and Diving
  • Whale Watching (June to October) - Minjerribah is one of the best land based whale watching spots on the east coast of Australia with thousands of Humpback Whales passing close by our beaches and headlands as they head north to breed and give birth.  We also have the bonus of them again travelling past our shores on their way back to Antarctica.  As locals we see them on a daily basis from June to October - it is a very special time of year.
  • Boating
  • Bushwalking
  • Bird and Wildlife watching - we are very fortunate to have abundant native wildlife living in and around our townships.  Please remember this when driving and when walking your pets which must be kept on a leash at all times unless in an off leash area.
